Frequently Asked Questions
A: Your lymphatic health is crucial, as it plays a vital role in maintaining your body's overall wellness.
Think of the lymphatic system as your body's sewage system: it regulates water levels, transports fats, eliminates waste, and circulates lymphocytes (white blood cells that bolster your immunity). Lymphatic vessels run throughout your body, guiding lymph fluid towards the lymph nodes, which filter out toxins and other unwanted materials.
At The Flow Clinics, we specialize in a treatment designed to support and enhance your lymphatic health. Our lymphatic drainage treatment boosts your lymphatic function and promote efficient fluid movement, improve immune function, and help detoxify your body. By optimizing your lymphatic health, you can improve your energy levels, reduce swelling, and support your body's natural ability to detoxify and heal.
Prioritize your lymphatic health with The Flow Clinics and experience the difference a well-maintained lymphatic system can make in your overall vitality and health!
A. Poor lymphatic flow can manifest through a variety of symptoms and health issues. Here are the Top 10 Key Indicators that you may be a candidate:
1. Infection or Inflammation/Swelling:
If you experience persistent infection or swelling, including pre or post-surgical instances, this could be a sign of lymphatic system issues. The backup of lymph fluid can cause swelling in the surrounding tissue, a condition known as "Lymphedema"
2. Chronic Fatigue. Lack of Sleep. Stress:
Feeling consistently tired despite adequate rest. An actual lack of sleep can disrupt the body's ability to re-stock, heal and regenerate. Likewise, stress (emotional, physical, mental) puts the body into "Fight or Flight" where only essential functions are prioritized while all others are slowed, or on hold. Cognitive issues like difficulty concentrating and mild memory losses ("Brain Fog") can be linked to lymphatic issues
3. Frequent Illness. Colds. Infections:
A compromised lymphatic system can weaken the immune response, making you more prone to infections. Regularly occuring swollen lymph nodes in areas such as the neck, armpits, or groin.
4. Skin Problems:
Conditions like dry skin, acne, eczema and rashes can often be linked to lymphatic congestion.
5. Food Sensitivities. Toxins and Pollutants:
Unexplained digestive issues, food intolerances and bloating, also toxicity in the form of headaches, fatigue and nausea.
6. Soreness. Achy or Stiff Muscles and Joints:
Tight muscles, fascia and achy or stiff joints will essentially squish the lymphatic vessels, impeding circulation of lymph fluid which can lead to postural issues, gait (walking pattern) and overall discomfort.
7. Weight Gain:
Difficulty losing weight or unexplained weight gain could be a sign of a sluggish lymphatic system. Congested hard fat diminishes the flow of the lymphatic system by compressing lymphatic vessels causing poor drainage (Visualize a garden hose with water flowing through it and your foot stopping the flow)
8. Lack of exercise/sedentary lifestyle/desk job:
Just like our heart pumps to circulate blood, the circulation of lymph fluid directly DEPENDS on negative pressure from movement and muscle contraction. Exercise also increases the depth of breath.
9. Improper breathing:
Chest, mouth or shallow breathing vs. deep, diaphragmatic/belly breathing. Deep breathing circulates lymph.
10. Poor Water and Food Consumption. Dehydration. Constipation:
Low daily water intake and/or less than optimal food selection creates a sticky, gluey/syrupy environment in the lymphatic vessels, slowing down circulation of the lymph (stagnant lymph). Foods high in sugar/chemicals/dyes means that energy is spent storing these hazards, as they cannot be destroyed and instead build up. Food sensitivities, intolerances and unexplained digestive issues can then be heightened within your body.
If you identify with any of these symptoms or conditions in your daily life, our technician will provide a personal treatment plan to Relieve, Detoxify and Revive your body by stimulating your lymphatic system to reduce inflammation, and boost your overall immunity and well-being.

Lymphatic drainage is a gentle, non-invasive treatment. Most clients find it deeply relaxing—some even fall asleep on the table!
To ensure an effective session:
Stay relaxed and breathe normally
Avoid tensing your muscles
Let your therapist know if any area feels tender or uncomfortable
Occasionally, your therapist may come across a tight muscle or congested area not visible to the eye. If this happens, they will adjust the pressure and use faster, shorter strokes to help relieve congestion more comfortably in that area.
Possible Temporary Side Effects
While most clients feel refreshed after their session, some may experience mild, short-lived side effects:
Mild tenderness or tightness
Light bruising or petechiae (small, pinpoint red spots)
Emotional release
Detox symptoms, such as:
Mild headache
Fatigue or drowsiness
Slight nausea
These reactions are normal and usually resolve within 24–72 hours. They indicate your lymphatic system is activating and releasing stored toxins.
Aftercare & Follow-Up
Your technician will check in with you within 24-48 hours to ensure you’re feeling well.

A: At The Flow Clinics, each treatment is customized to meet your specific objectives and your body's unique needs.
During your initial consultation, we will assess your goals and provide a personalized recommendation for your treatment plan. Generally, we suggest starting with 1-2 sessions a per week for six weeks to achieve the best result.
After this initial phase, treatments can be scheduled as desired for "tune ups" and to maintain the benefits, every 3-4 weeks. In cases of light congestion or minimal issues, the frequency of treatments may be adjusted accordingly.
For those post-surgical, or in physio and/or training regimes, the treatment will complement the work of other practitioners to have you reach your full potential, both of motion and overall well being.
We will guide you every step of the way to ensure you receive the best care possible.
A: At The Flow Clinics, we emphasize the importance of proper dietary and exercise habits to enhance the effectiveness of our treatments, especially those targeting fat reduction.
Post-treatment, embracing these three dietary and exercise recommendations will help maximize the benefits of your treatments at The Flow Clinics and support your wellness journey;
1. Hydrate Regularly:
Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins and support your metabolism.
2. Balanced Meals:
Incorporate a balanced mix of protein, lean meats, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure your body gets essential nutrients without excessive fat intake.
Recommendation: For remainder of the day to 24hours following treatment go "fat free". Fats include:
- oils (all including avocado and coconut)
- oil-based salad dressing
- butter
- nuts and nut butters
- avocados
- all red meats
- cheese
- olives
- mayonnaise
- seeds
* See below for more detail
3. Exercise - Low impact:
Exercise is crucial to boost metabolism. It supplies the critical amounts of oxygen necessary to support the metabolic process. Negative pressure created by your muscles engages the lymphatic system by squeezing the thoracic duct (the largest lymphatic vessel).
RECOMMENDED exercises that support increased circulation:
Swimming
Pilates
Stretching (deep/hold longer)
Stairmaster/climbing stairs
Cross trainer
Yoga
Rebounder
*More Detail On Food Choices:
- Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help keep your metabolism active and prevent the accumulation of excess fat
- Limit Processed And High Fat Foods: Avoid foods that are high in unhealthy fats. When the bloodstream is high in fat, some of it is used as calories for normal metabolic work. However, if fat continues to enter the body in large amounts, it cannot all be used efficiently, causing some of it to revert back into storage. This can counteract the benefits of your treatment
- Avoid Sugary Snacks: Cut down on sugary foods and alcoholic beverages as they can lead to fat storage and negatively affect your metabolic rate. By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure that the fat circulating in your bloodstream is efficiently metabolized, bolstering the results of your treatments at The Flow Clinics.
